Perhaps one of the best things you can do for your health is to meditate. Wikipedia encyclopedia defines meditation as:

A mental discipline which one attempts to get beyond the reflexive, “thinkingmind into a deeper state of relaxation or awareness. Meditation often involves turning attention to a single point of reference. It is a component of many religions, and has been practiced since antiquity. It is also practiced outside religious traditions. Different meditative images-13disciplines encompass a wide range of spiritual or psychophysical practices that may emphasize different goals—from achievement of a higher state of consciousness, to greater focus, creativity or self-awareness, or simply a more relaxed and peaceful frame of mind.

Meditation is a practice performed all over the world, often to achieve spiritual growth. The biblical phrase, “Be still and know that I am God” refers to meditation. A more direct reference to meditation is also found: “But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.”

Those who would endeavor to meditate have often asked, what is the difference between prayer and meditation? It has been said that in prayer, we talk to God, and in meditation, we listen to God.

Many hospitals and schools are incorporating meditation into their programs because it is thought to induce a multitude of health benefits including stress and pain relief. Mind-body approaches to healing are very powerful. Regarding meditation and guided imagery, a health practitioner in Laguna Beach, California, Dale Figtree, PhD, reported, “There are people who have healed themselves, or were healed, solely on the use of this practice, after all traditional approaches to healing their cancer had failed.”

Dr. William McGarey believes that, “We seek in meditation to attune our physical and mental bodies to their Source, the divine energy we call God.” This has been affirmed in the Cayce readings:

Know that all strength, all healing of every nature is the changing of the vibrations from within—the attuning of the Divine within the living tissue of a body to Creative Energies. This alone is healing. Whether it is accomplished by the use of drugs, the knife or whatnot, it is the attuning of the atomic structure of the living cellular force to its spiritual heritage.
